This psalm of praise, written by David, is one that I have carried close to my heart through every season of life. In the midst of family struggles, new job opportunities, grief, uncertain next steps, the highest mountaintops, and the deepest valleys, its words have remained a steady reminder of God’s character. More than that, it calls us to consider how we should live in response to who He is.
The difficult seasons we walk through and the hard circumstances we face should not — and cannot — dictate whether we praise the Lord. Psalm 145:3 reads, “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable.” When we’re frustrated, He is greatly to be praised. When we rejoice, He is greatly to be praised. When we’re worried and don’t know what our next steps will look like, He is greatly to be praised.
When you fall, or when life gets hard and it seems like you keep getting pushed down, run to the Lord and cling to Him with humility. God will draw near and uphold you in His strength. Verse 14 reads, “The LORD upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.” God desires we trust Him whether in the depths of doubt or the highs of assurance. And those moments build faith that is unshakable.
I encourage you to hold the glorious works of the Lord close and testify to His goodness and faithfulness despite changing seasons. 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised.
