Assurance, look the definition up in the dictionary and you will find the phrase, “freedom from doubt.” It is amazing to contemplate this definition when looking at the Old Testament character of Joseph.
Probably most well-known for being given the “coat of many colors” by his father, Joseph’s life took a drastic turn that he could neither predict nor prepare for. How did he respond? Scripture is clear that Joseph remained faithful to the Lord through his many sufferings and despite much pain. What was the reason for this? Well, that’s the focus of this edition of Veritas.
Pain and suffering. How do you respond? If you are anything like me, thinking of ways to avoid pain at all costs keeps you up at night. Not only do you think about avoiding it, but you mentally prepare yourself for how to get out of it when it occurs. Pain and suffering are the things many of our dreams are made of and yet God has called us all to suffer. Pain is a part of life (ask any married person). Just kidding.
It is my prayer that in reading this edition of Veritas you will be informed of the truth that pain, suffering, and struggle is what God uses to keep us in pursuit of Him. But instead of adopting an attitude of cynicism, I hope that you will be encouraged how the presence of God in your life dulls the sharpness of any struggle you could experience. We at Veritas are convinced that because God has placed us within a generation accustomed to struggle and given over to doubt, the need for the saints to be equipped to handle suffering is greater now than ever before.
Until next time, may the Truth change you!
